I opened Desirable Roasted Coffee on June 11, 2004, with a brief entry promising little humility. I started posting in earnest in October 2004.

This blog started as a personal blog with only incidental looks at the communication profession. But it has evolved into a blog that is mostly about communication, and almost entirely about how communication, society, and technology push each other around.

Since January 17, 2005, Desirable Roasted Coffee is hosted at Typepad.com, using the "Pro" hosting plan. I launched it on Blogger.com, a free hosting service that is a fine place to start, but a poor place to grow.

Desirable Roasted Coffee is on its fourth design. The first was a Blogger.com template. The second and third were my own designs.

The present design is the work of my friend Michael Neergaard-Holm. He's a rare one: a designer who starts with communication strategy in mind.

I did the CSS and XHTML myself, using Macromedia Dreamweaver and basic Notepad. Yes, it's kludge and, yes, I have better things to do. But tedious detail work can clean the mind for better things.

I am in the process of moving Desirable Roasted Coffee to the Wordpress platform -- with a spanking new design!
